The State of Michigan has recognized the seriousness of dating violence and has enforced the campaign "Dating Violence Is A Big Deal". The State of Michigan defines dating violence as a pattern of assaultive and controlling behaviors that a person uses against another in order to gain and maintain power in a relationship. The assailant intentionally behaves in ways that cause fear, degradation and humiliation to control the other person. Forms of abuse can be physical, sexual, emotional and psychological.
1 in 16 TEEN GIRLS have or will face intimate dating violence.
25% -35% of the abusers admit abusing their partners out of intimidation and to place fear in their partners.
Young women between the ages of 16-24 are the most vulnerable to intimate partner violence.
20% of violence against women occurs in dating.
1.3 million women and 835,000 men are physically assaulted by an intimate partner annually in the United States.
